4 Utah State University Students Die in Accident
P: 11:00 p.m. MT, April 17, 2008
TREMONTON, UT. -- Ten students and one professor from Utah State University’s Agriculture Department were driving east on Interstate 84 on their way back from a field trip when, according to an eye whiteness, the driver rear tier blew out and the van rolled down off the interstate towards the ravine. 4 people were dead at the scene, the remaining were taken to local hospitals.
Professor Evan Parker was driving the van, and the ten agriculture students were in the back. The 4 that died at the scene were: Professor Parker, Steven Bair, Kirt Madsen and Brad Wilcox. Two students in the hospital in critical conditions are Robert Peterson and Jared Nelson.
The van was traveling from Green Line Implements where the group met up after looking at a combine out in the field. Kyle Holden was driving in a separate car by the van when the accident occurred. He said the tier blew and Professor Parker tried to control the van but was unable, loosing control the van rolled 4 to 5 times down the hill. According to Holden bodies were flying out of the van during the roll over.
Noel Cockett, Dean of the college of agricultural said “Professor Parker commented to me saying ‘In fifteen years of teaching these are the best group of kids I’ve thought’ this accident will have a long term affect.” It is agricultural week at the University, it was a week to celebrate the accomplishments of the college, now celebrations are turning into memorials.

Jazz Score Crucial Win
SALT LAKE CITY— Utah Jazz scored a win against the San Antonio Spurs last night. The final score ended in 106 – 99. Gregg Popovich, coach of Spurs, commented on the effect of the fans saying, "It’s hard to win in this house, the Jazz are the best home team in the MBA." The game was tight till the end, with both teams tied at 97 Ronnie Brewer made a 3-pointer giving the Jazz the break away they needed. There are only six games left in the season, the Jazz are still going strong.
C.J. Miles made a career high of 30 points for the game, he accredits his great game to Deron Williams saying "Deron opened it up for me and I got some shots tonight." Over all the team broke a record of the most 3 – point shots made scoring 16. Jerry Sloan commented on his defense "I really give credit to my team for defense, we had some great stops." He couldn’t be more right, the defense made this game win possible.
Memit Okure made it back for this game after having the flu twice this week, he showed some great defense but accredits his team for great effort, "We work hard to have good game." Ronnie Brewer came back with his groin injury he said he tried to forget about it and do his job, which he did. Over all the game was a good one Salon said "We had some good stops especially right there at the end, my guys really picked it up," "I am proud of them."

Google makes bid for Time Warner
SAN JOSE, Cali. Google Inc. has gone strait to the stock holders of Time Warner Inc. to make a hostile takeover bid. Google’s offer includes paying $35 billion in cash, $10 billion in stock and $5 billion in assumed debt of Time Warner. CEO of Google, Dr. Eric Schmidt, said “This is the correct move at the correct time for Google.”
With this bid in the public it has made CEO of Yahoo Inc. a little uncomfortable with the fact that they could possibly not get bought out by either of these two companies that he was originally hoping for. Microsoft Inc. was hoping to buy out Time Warner to increase their already large market, but seemed to be a little slow on the bidding process.
Stocks are changing for all four of these major companies. SAN HOSA, Cal. Google has made an offer to take over Time Warner Inc. "Google strikes while the irons hot, and the iron is hot in the media industry. This is the correct move and correct time for Google." Google Inc. CEO Eric Schmidt made this comment today while explaining Google Inc. move for a hostile bid to take over of Time Warner.
Time Warner, Google and Yahoo are the big companies that are going to be effected in this take over. President Lincolns Gettysburg Address
GETTYSBURG, Penn. Today, four months after the Union armies defeated the Confederacy in the Battle of Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln dedicated a piece of Gettysburg to become a cemetery for those brave men that fought and died for our country. During President Lincolns speech on this hot day we can hear he love for this country and his devotion to us Americans.
Through this battle we lost many soldiers, President Lincoln acknowledged and praised their good work saying, “These honored dead gave the last full measure of devotion.” The Battle of Gettysburg proved to be the turning point of the Civil war, but was also the bloodiest. The soldiers fought for our country proving their dedication. President Lincoln had a hard time fully expressing his feelings for the soldiers but when it came to it he showed how truly grateful he is. “We can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it”
Now four months after the war we still remember this day, and the war we all fought through. President Lincoln shows his strength and faith in this nation when he says
“We here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom” This speech will go down in history.

LOGAN- ClearPoint Instruction is making a break threw on educating patients at local hospitals. The companies founder Mary Ann Parlin researched patients at local hospitals. She found when patients don’t know what is happening they are un happy, procedures take longer and recovery is longer. Doctors and nurses try to educate their patients but it slows down the doctors, nurses and patients. ClearPoint will assist doctors by telling patients what they need to do, and what the doctors are going to be doing.
ClearPoint wants to bring education to patients; currently they have three different instructional pamphlets and seven DVD’s. ClearPoint believes in instructional education, all the DVD’s show many different processes that patients can go threw. ClearPoint demonstrates surgeries to giving birth. After a patient watches or reads about what they are going to go through they come into the hospital knowing exactly what to do, sparing doctors and nurses a lot of time. Preston Parker, Senior Vice President, said, “When patients are educated they go through the processes faster, feel more secure, and are happier.” ClearPoint hopes to bring awareness to the community about their goals and how they are trying to help patients and doctors alike.

Oprah Winfrey dies from adoring fans
CHICAGO, Ill. - Oprah Winfrey a beloved acrtess, talk show host, public figure, sister, daughter and friend died yesterday in a tragic accident. She died around 3:30 yesterday, February 14th, 2008 after being soffocated by her adoring fans as she left her studio.
Oprah was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She had a rough childhood, after the age of 13 she lived with her father under his strict discipline but taught her at an early age learned how to accomplish her best. At the age of 17 she started her broadcating career when she was hired by WVOL in Nashville. Two years later she moved to Baltimore to be come a co-anchor, where she discovered her love for broadcasting. In 1986 the Oprah Winfrew show started becoming the number one talk show in less than a year.
She was a world renound women with many accomplishments under her belt. With her talk show she helped men and women alike, bringing awarness of many topics to the nation and gave an amazing example to women of every race. She helped bring awarness to millions on topics such as teen suicides and domestic violence. In 2007 she recieved the Humanitarian Award, 2005 she recived the NAACP Hall of Fame, and the National Association of Broadcasters. In the hight of her career Oprah opened her all girls school in Africa, this was her dream. With her contributions and service these girls will now be able to learn in a safe enviornment. She was an amazing example to us all and will be missed by all of her adoring fans.
She is survived by her partner, Stedman Graham, and many of her fans.

Practice news story: trial

Trial date set for two suspects in LDS meetinghouse break in
Logan, Ut. Last Thursday a LDS meetinghouse was broken into, it was suspected that two suspects were involved. Today the suspects were taken to court; attorneys showed evidence on how these two individuals needed to go to trial for their crime. The new trial date is set for March 21st.
Last Thursday night Bishop Shirk left his office window open, later that night Jim Michaels and a juvenile snuck threw the window then took some computers. In the morning the maintenance man found some smashed monitors and called police. The investigation proved to be an easy one.
In court today Jim Michaels had evidence proven against him that he was the main suspect. His acquaintance, the juvenile, was also a main part in this crime. In trial next month Michaels can get up to 6 months in prison on the accounts of felony burglary and breaking and entering. The juvenile could be charged as an adult, but at this time is awaiting the trial.

Practice news writting story 3: crime
A local meeting house of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter – day Saints was broken into last night. No one was around when the brake in happened, the maintenance man found smashed monitors in the morning and called police. Sheriff Deputy Geoffrey Hasty said that it looks like two juveniles came in threw a window and stole a few things. Bishop Lawrence Shirk was the last person to leave last night around 11 p.m. He recalls leaving his office window open but locking all of the doors.
One of the suspects allegedly came in threw the window of the office, then let the other person in. They took two CPU’s leaving the keyboards and smashing the monitors in the hall. Maintenance man of the building, Robert Knotz came in the building around six this morning to do some simple repairs. "I saw the smashed monitors and knew something was wrong so I called for help." Around 6:15 police arrived, they are still working on the investigation.
In the community people are responding saying that this is a very safe neighborhood, and they are surprised something like this happened. Evelyan Breathwhite lives across the parking lot of the building, she recalls some noise around 2 in the morning but thought nothing of it. Extra practice news story 2: fire
Blaze on Washington Blvd
At roughly 2pm on the corner of 21st and Washington Blvd a fire broke out in Pedro's, a local resturant. Pedro's is a brother owned resturant, being rented from Rachel Calhun. Above the resturant is two stories of apartment complexes. The fire started when Pedro was cooking for his regular customer then as he put it "The grease just spread every where and the smoke came fast." Pedro and the customer got out with no injuries. In the upstairs apartment Miguel Sanchez, Pedro's brother, and his two daughters were having a peaceful afternoon. No one was injured but the two and four year old girls were taken to McKay - Dee hospital for smoke inhalation. These were the only people in the complex at the time. The complex owner had no comment on the blaze.

Family restaurant and apartment caught on fire last night. On the corner of 21st and Washington Blvd Pedro’s restaurant and apartment complex is located, the owner of the restaurant Pedro Sanchez was cooking for a loyal customer when grease spread through out the kitchen. The customer called the fire department while Pedro’s got out. There are no damage estimates right now, but there is a lot of smoke damage.
Up stairs in the apartment complex Pedro’s brother and nieces were having a normal afternoon, they were not injured but the two girl’s ages four and two were taken to the hospital for smoke intilation. This family ran restaurant is owned by Pedro and will soon be co owned with his brother Miquel once he gets his working visa. Pedro has been told by friends, that he will get help rebuilding his restaurant. This is his and his brothers dream to run a great business. Rachel Calhun is the owner of the complex, she had no comment on the fire at this time.

Practice News story 1: Accident
Tragedy at University
Eleven driving in a van yesterday, rolled off of the road killing seven students and one professor from Utah State University. The van was traveling to Green line after a field trip in Brigham City to see some combine. Kyle Holden was in the vehicle following the van he was in the process of passing the van when he looked back and saw smoke. The van then swerved from the slow lane to the fast lane, then rolled several times.
It is AG week at the university; Professor Evan Parker took ten of his best students on this field trip. Earlier this week Professor Parker mentioned to the Dean of the Agricultural Department “In fifteen years of teaching these are the best group of kids I’ve taught.” Professor Parker was the driver of the van, he died at the scene. Seven others died at the scene, some of the names released were Steven Bair, Kirt Madsen and Brad Wilcox. Robert Peterson and Jared Nelson are currently in an Ogden hospital in critical condition. Ag week at the University is now focusing on these victims there will be a memorial some time this week. This is truly a devastating day to the University and the community.
